Throughout its history, Wayves Magazine has operated entirely on volunteer journalism; it was necessary because the cost of printing and distributing the magazine used every scrap of cash we brought in via adverising. This worked out pretty well, though; over 25 years we published… maybe 200,000 words of very good journalism and editorial a year, over five million words of great writing altogether, and connected tens of thousands of customers with advertisers.

2020 Halifax Zine Challenge

Every year the Halifax Anchor Archive hosts The 24 Hour Zine Challenge -- a whole bunch of people make zines in a 24-hour window; this year it'll be an online thing of course.

Resilient Grey Flannel

When I was a young boy, my mum worked for a man who had a ladies’ fashion shop. He sold off-the-rack wedding dresses and also made them by hand. His shop always smelled of this aftershave, as he’d walk around throwing it all over the carpet every morning. It’s a mixture of violets, roses, cinnamon, and sandalwood, and from the first moment I inhaled its heady aroma I was hooked.

NSRAP Boardmember Elections

On Sunday, November 1st at 6:00pm Halifax time, the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project (NSRAP) will host a Special General Meeting to elect new boardmembers.

Thom Fitzgerald film Splinters in Halifax

Local filmmaker Thom Fitzgerald's film Splinters, an adaptation of local playwright Lee-Anne Poole's stage play, will be shown at Neptune Theatre until November 8th. The film stars an all-east-coast cast and was shot in the Annapolis Valley.
